Sri Satya Sandarsana Rishi (Kanigiri Swamy) -- Pujya Guruvu Garu

Om Sri Gurubhyo Namaha

Pujya Guruvugaru Sri Satya Sandarsana Rishi (Kanigiri Swamy)

Sri Satya Sandarsana Rishi is from the Sri. Samartha Ramadas Parampara

It is a great privilege for me to write a few lines about our beloved Pujya Sri Satya Sandarsana Rishi Garu. I have been trying to complete this work since so many years, but due to insufficient information, unable to begin as planned.

He was a Devi upasaka. The greatness of him is that he knows face reading and mind reading. He was always cheerful never seen him getting angry on others. He used to tell the future without seeing any horoscope. Goddess Lalitha used to communicate with him frequently. He never showed off about his powers. He had a regular puja activity, and he did yoga every day and taught us some yoga technics. He used to practice the "Vastra Dhauti" Yoga Kriya. Vastra Dhauti is one of the six purification techniques of Hatha Yoga called the ShatkarmaVastra Dhauti is specifically aimed at cleaning the stomach and esophageal tract. In this practice a long strip of moist cotton cloth is swallowed into the stomach. After retaining it for some time, it is pulled out thereby cleaning the stomach.

He was not interested in showing miracles. But there are many disciples who experienced many Guruvugari miracles. My sister's marriage dates were well said in advance by Guruvugaru. He also knows the Nadi (pulse) checking and with that he used to tell the disease the person is suffering from. He knows Ayurveda treatment.

During my childhood our Guruvugaru Sri Satya Sandarsana Rishi used to tell me many devotional matters voluntarily and sometimes by catching hold of me forcibly. In the same way he showered his kindness on our parents, sisters and my brothers. That is the greatness of him especially towards our family. All our family members and I think that it is our previous birth “Punya Phala” to get abundant blessings of our Guruvugaru.

About our Guruvugaru Sri Satya Sandarsana Rishi.

His actual name was Sri. Pungoti Rama Subba Rao. He was born on August 17, 1911, at a place called Yadavalli village in Podili Taluka, (Kanigiri Mandalam) Andhra Pradesh, to Sri. Chinna Venkata Subbaiah garu and Smt. Parvatamma garu and he is the only one in the family. Coincidentally his birthday happened to be “Janmashtami” which is a very auspicious day. Guruvugari father Subbaiah garu worked in Wanaparthy Samsthan as Subedar and used to move around on horse for official works. His father died in the year 1918. After his father’s demise, his mother shifted their family to Kanigiri and started living with her sister Ammannammagaru and brother-in-law Rachapudi Subbaiah garu. Rachapudi Subbaiah garu was a Pleader Clerk.

Guruvugaru with his Dharma Patni Smt. Padmavathigaru.

From childhood Guruvugaru was fond of his relatives and was devotional. He was very intelligent and had a good literary knowledge from his childhood. Guruvugaru had agricultural lands in Yadavalli. In that there was a step well and very often he used to do meditation on steps of the well. Due to this meditation, he was able to fore see many things. During his childhood he used tell other children the questions that will be asked in the exams in advance. But one day Lord Hanuman appeared and hit Guruvuvugaru on his back and warned him not to tell the children like that. Since then, he stopped telling.  He opposed the Christian propaganda since his childhood.

Guruvugaru passed SSLC in Ongole. My maternal uncle Sri Chivukula Buchhaihgaru was Guruvugari classmate in Ongole and that is how he was known to my parents Sri. Prakhya Radha Krishna Sarma and Smt. Vasantha. Mrs. Vasantha was the sister of Sri Buchhaiahgaru. Guruvugaru used treat my mother as his daughter and called her as "Ammayee". This shows why he was so close to our family. After completing SSLC, Guruvugaru went to Chennai and worked in R Venkatateswara & Co (printing company) as Agent and Representative. He used to go on tour to Chennai and Andhra Pradesh (combined state) on office work.

In the year 1936, Guruvugaru married Smt. Padmavathi, second daughter of Sri. Turlapati Venkata Rangaiah (& Mrs. Parvathi), who is Guruvugari maternal uncle and he used to live in Chennai. Guruvugaru was blessed with three sons and 3 daughters. All the children were born in Chennai. Till the year 1952 he worked with printing company and then resigned as he lost the enthusiasm in the worldly matters. He continued to show more interest in the bhakti marg. After taking “deeksha” as Rishi, his eldest son Mr. Bhargaraju took the family responsibility. Guruvugari eldest son Mr. Bargaraju undertook the family responsibility successfully.

While he was working in the printing press, one day went to Anantapur on office work. There in Ramadasa Swamy Mandiram he happened to meet Mataji Indumati Swejulkar and her husband Sri. Gopal Rao. Mataji Indumati Swejulkar accepted Sri. Rama Subba Rao garu as her disciple and gave him the Yogi Diksha. After the Diksha and named him as Sri. Satya Sandarsana Rishi. Mataji and her husband were going around places in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and other states in India for spreading the Hindu religion.  Mataji Indumati had their Ashram in Sajjanghad, Satara, Maharashtra.

After attaining the Diksha, he served in the Kanchi Matham for seven years as advised by then Sri, Chandra Sekharendra Saraswathy Swamy of Kanchi. He attained lot of religious knowledge from Kanchi Swamy, who liked Guruvugaru very much. He also went Puri and some other places to spread the Hindu religion.

Guruvugaru from the year 1959 did frequently many religious programmes including poojas, Vratas and Yagams in Guntur Omkara kshetram. He was provided a separate room in Omkara Kshetram to stay. He used to do lot of meditation for days on the Mangalagiri mountains and on the Indra Keel Adri mountains in Vijayawada. During his meditation on the Indra Keel Adri Mountain Durga Matha gave darshan to him.

Guruvugaru frequently visited our house, once in every six months. There was special bond between our family and  Guruvugaru. For years he has performed many Yagams and poojas in our house and he made all of our family members to participate in those events. He gave several mantra "Upadesams" to all our family members without anticipating anything in return. It is very rare and fortunate to come across such a Divine person. All our family members till to date chant those mantras every day.

He had many disciples spread over many places. All those disciples had a good faith in him. His disciples come from all walks of the life. His disciples were from IAS officer to high, low officials and other normal people.

I wish to give my own experience with Guruvugaru. As mentioned earlier by me, he gave Upadesam on several mantras to me when I was young and that includes "Panchadasi". But I forgot the mantra and discontinued to recite. I thought several times that if Guruvugaru was alive, he would have told me the same mantra again. But luckily one night he came over my dream and gave Panchadasi mantra upadesam again. I was so fortunate and happy to get the mantra upadesam in the dream.

In the year 1985, Guruvugaru was invited by his disciples to Pasumalai in Dindivanam, Tamil Nadu to perform Navaratri puja. He has successfully completed the nine days puja. It was believed that Guruvugaru knows about his death and on the ninth day of the Navaratri itself performed the Poornahuti. After the successful completion of the poornahuti, due to the tiredness he slept for some time. And he passed away in the sleep itself. Great persons will always get a peaceful death and that too on an auspicious day.

This a great opportunity to me compile the life story of our beloved Guruvugaru and I could complete this with his blessings and guidance.

Request the Guruvugari disciples to correct me, if mistakes were noticed.

Request to the Guruvugari Disciples: If any disciple come across this blog, request you to share your experiences and photos if any with Guruvugaru. 🙏🙏
